Hello from the AMS Counseling Office,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! As a counseling staff we want to help ensure a successful transition and experience for your student in middle school. School counselors serve to advocate on behalf of all students; helping with academic needs, social/emotional needs, and college and career readiness. We meet with students on an individual basis, as well as in small groups and with whole classrooms.

This semester we are gearing up for a variety of student groups at AMS. We will continue to offer a Military Support Group. AMS military students have the opportunity to get together throughout the year and participate in social activities. This allows them to share with each other and enjoy the community of other military students in our building.

We also have a Peer Mentoring group. The purpose of this group is to allow students to learn leadership skills, and foster personal-social skills, as they mentor new students at AMS. We want to make the transition to AMS as smooth as possible, as moving can be difficult for students. Peer mentors are student leaders and they help welcome the new AMS faces and make people feel apart of our AMS family.

I am also available for individual student support, parent meetings, communication with teams, and academic guidance. I want to be your student’s advocate as they navigate their next two years of middle school.

Please be watching for information regarding our Naviance website, a comprehensive website that you and your student can use to make plans centering around college and career exploration, as well as Individual Plans of Study.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact me with any needs or concerns.

Go Tornadoes!
