Preliminary Project Drawings - early learning centers and new elementary school

Eugene Field and College Hill Early Learning Centers

  • College Hill is currently out for bid for the remainder of the project.The bids are due back on November 12, 2019. We look to present bids to F&G on Wednesday, November 13th if they came in under budget. Then we would present to the BOE on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
  • Design team is still working on the design of Eugene Field. Once the committee has come to a consensus on the layout of the school we will then present it to F&G and then to the BOE.
  • Design team is working on reducing the footprint to bring in budget. They are also working on the location that is appropriate for ITS.

New Elementary School in Blue Township

  • The design team has moved into the construction document phase of the project.
  • I had a meeting with the department head for music to go over the casework layout to make sure that the needs were going to be meet.
  • Leadership meet with the design team to go over some fine details last week, to answer some questions in order for them to continue on with construction documents.
  • We are still on track to bid this out in December. We tentatively will bring the bids to F&G on January 15th and to the BOE on January 22nd.

Amanda Arnold Elementary School

  • Lighting is complete.
  • Lights are all complete.
  • Construction Owners Representative and the project manager walked the site on Monday for the final.
  • BHS will final bill for this project and we will have one complete for the 2018 Bond!

  • We continue to work out minor details for SPED.
  • We are still working out details on the fire lanes needed at both sites.
  • Projects will still be bid out right after the first of the year.

Manhattan High School

  • The design team is moving forward after given approval from F&G and BOE with the additional monies of $1.6 million.
  • There are areas that had to be cut from the original design that was shown during the schematic design. For example: extra practice field, tennis courts had to move to the top of the hill, south road and parking.Then there was just some other design components that were cut that the public will not recognize.
  • MHS leadership meet last week and talked more about what they wanted to see in the design and what else could be cut.
  • The design team will be meeting with user groups all day on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

Keith Noll Maintenance Center

  • The project began on October 14th with asbestos abatement. The abatement was completed by a local contractor in town.
  • On Friday, October 25, 2019, the big piece of demo equipment was delivered to the site.
  • The abatement was completed on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.
  • With help from MGC we are getting the utilities turned off so that demolish can begin.We are hopeful that it can begin on Wednesday the 6th or on Thursday, November 7th.
  • Meantime, the maintenance shop is housed in two job trailers located on the SW corner of the property. It is a little bit chilly and no running water.

Marlatt Elementary

  • Clint, Matt and Trisha meet with Sheila to go over what was in the bond for their school on Monday, October 28, 2019.
  • Sheila mentioned that she would be talking to the site council on Monday, November 4, 2019. Trisha and Matt will present the bond items for the school to the site council.
  • Sheila is working on putting the committee together for the building.
  • Once the committee has been establish we will then come up with a regular day and time for the building committee meetings.

Lee Elementary

  • We had an initial meeting to go over what was in the bond for Lee Elementary. Basically a parking lot and an electrical panel upgrade.
  • Erica explained that they really needed a bus drop off lane near the school. How they really needed to have the students not walk so far away from the school to get on buses.
  • We had our first kick-off bond meeting with the committee on October 21, 2019.

Bergman Elementary

  • We had a kick off meeting with just the principal to go over what was in the bond for Bergman.
  • We talked about the process of how the building committee would work and how he should put his team together.
  • We discussed the process from beginning to end with design approvals and then into construction.
  • Trisha Brooke-Fruendt and Matt Davis then present a high level view of the bond project to the site council. A lot of questions were asked. A lot of concern was brought up about the fund raising of the playground. Trisha advised that they should do nothing with it until they plans for the addition and the parking lot have been finalized. The addition and parking lot need to go where is makes sense logistically and financially for the school and district. But we all needed to work together on this.
  • The first building committee will be on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

Jaime Gregory and Trisha Brooke-Fruendt went to Ed Spaces in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on scholarships from Ed Spaces to view educational furniture and attend educational workshops.  They will be putting together a report to share with administration on what they found and believe would be good pieces of furniture for all the projects in the bond.  They are also working on piloting several classrooms in a couple of schools with furniture for the new elementary.  They will be looking at trying out furniture for collaborative spaces for the high school as well.
