What is Early Expressions?

Early Expressions Best in Show award winnerEarly Expressions is a celebration of art within our school district. In collaboration with the district’s art teachers, the Beach Museum of Art and the Strecker-Nelson Gallery, the Manhattan-Ogden Public Schools Foundation is sponsoring the 11th annual district-wide art contest for elementary and secondary students.

This fall, students of all ages have submitted over 2000 pieces of original artwork which will be juried, and the winning artwork will be showcased at the Beach Museum of Art in February 2019. Students and family will enjoy a public reception on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the museum, celebrating the winning artwork.

How Can You Help?

You can support art in the schools with your involvement in this program. The first few years wereEarly Expressions group photo of award winners supported by a short-term grant that has since expired, leaving a significant need for event sponsors.

The only funding source for this program is the sponsorship support, which will be used by the Foundation in the enhancement of the school district. Excess funds raised in past years were used to fund field trips to the Beach Museum for elementary art students, trips to galleries in Kansas City for secondary art students and new art equipment and programming.

Every child who submits art to Early Expressions receives recognition for their participation, and thoseEarly Expressions award winner selected to be shown at the Beach Museum are presented with special gifts. Judges will also select division winners as well as Best of Show.

The 2019 Early Expressions Event will take place Feb. 6 - 9, 2019, with a reception for the public and family to be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, from 1:30–3:30 p.m. at the Beach Museum of Art. Recognition of the students will take place at 2:00 p.m.
