Deaf and hard of hearing students in Manhattan receive academic and language support through a variety of means and methods. Elementary students are enrolled in the site-based program at Woodrow Wilson Elementary where they can receive inclusive support, resource support, interpreter support, and socialize with other d/hh students. Secondary students are offered the same services in their respective schools.
The Teacher of the Deaf, Susie Stanfield, supervises a staff of three certified sign language interpreters. Deaf/hard of hearing students in all grade levels are brought together twice a year for a day of socialization with each other and deaf adults in the area.
Mrs. Stanfield is can be reached at Woodrow Wilson Elementary, 785-587-2170, with questions about the services offered in the deaf ed program.
