Welcome to the Bluemont Library/Media Center!
My name is Mrs. Stigge, and I am the Library Media Specialist. Mrs. Chapman is the Bluemont Library Clerk and works part time each day. We look forward to assisting you in the Bluemont Library Media Center.
The Bluemont School Library is an open, friendly, and inviting place for students, teachers and parents. It is the place where the library media specialist, classroom teachers and other special area teachers collaborate and integrate information skills across the curriculum, with common interests for the students.
Students, teachers and parents have flexible and continuous access to the library and its resources, throughout the school day. The library media center is an active, technology-rich, student centered learning environment that promotes reading, information literacy, critical thinking and lifelong learning.
The Bluemont library is small but unique in that we offer a wide selection of Fiction, Non-Fiction -including biographies, and Picture books for our Bluemont Bobcat Readers. We have a “special collection” area that offers non-fiction books to the younger readers. We house a small reference section and a few student magazines, but encourage our readers to use on-line sources for these types of selections. For faculty and staff we have a professional section and a multi-media section.
Throughout the school year new books, award winning books, books in a series, and various authors and illustrators are promoted through book displays. The goal is to connect students to books!!!
We have library computers where students and teachers can access our school collection as well as on-line resources. Students can also take Reading Counts quizzes and work on school projects.
Throughout the year the Bluemont Library is host to students for whole group instruction and small group lessons, as well as assisting individual students with daily check out and special projects. We promote a variety of authors and books and assist students in finding reading material that is of interest, and on their independent reading level, as well as exploring a variety of genres.
The Bluemont Library Media Center hosts special reading events throughout the year such as Read Across America, Dress As Your Favorite Book Character Day, Read-A-Thons, Storytelling by community members, as well as parent volunteers and School of Hope volunteers.
Once again, welcome to the Bluemont Library Media Center where learning and reading never stop. Books and learning take you many places…where will you “Journey” this year?
