Welcome to the Amanda Arnold Elementary School Library!
I am Mrs. Shirley Vogts, the Library Media Specialist. I have been the Amanda Arnold Media Specialist for 12 years. I enjoy my job since I get to spend my days teaching children about two things I am passionate about, books and technology. I am fortunate to have Mrs. Deb Shaner as my Library Clerk. Mrs. Shaner has been the Library Clerk for 15 years. She is excellent at assisting children, teachers and parents.
There are over 10,000 books in the Amanda Arnold library. The library is divided into sections to help students locate books. We have sections for picture books, fiction, and nonfiction books. In addition, we have a section of nonfiction books for your younger students and a section of early chapter books for the students who are ready to move from picture books to chapter books. Providing students with a variety of literature and nonfiction texts in the school library helps to create lifelong readers.
Amanda Arnold students use Scholastic Reading Counts which a computer based reading comprehension program. Reading Counts promotes students’ independent reading, tracks success and provides accountability. Students in grades 2-6 are all enrolled in the program. The children in first grade and kindergarten are enrolled when the classroom teacher determines a child’s independent reading level is high enough to allow success in the program. Each month children who reach the goal for their grade level may choose a paperback book from a selection provided by our generous PTO.
Parents are welcome to stop by and visit. We would be glad to show you our resources and answer any questions that you have about the library.
