Open Door

Manhattan Open Door is an adult Manhattan High School diploma completion program located at 205 South 4th Street, Manhattan, KS 66502.  Open Door is a partner with the Adult Learning Center (ALC) and both are a part of  Manhattan-Ogden USD 383. (The ALC provides opportunities for earning a General Education Diploma - GED, for working on Adult Basic Education (ABE) skills, for English as a Second Language  - ESL learners.) The district's calendar for Winter Break, Spring Break, and most other federal holidays apply to Open Door and its students.

Open Door allows adults to work on or complete their high school education using computer-based course instruction and applications. There is some off-line work in most courses.  A transcript verifying course completion or completion of credits required for diploma issuance is available upon successful completion of credits or fulfillment of diploma requirements.

Open Door enrollment generally begins August 1, with students being able to start course work during the second week of August. Enrollment continues through April 15th; however, it is hoped that most students will enroll prior to September 20th in order to be counted in USD #383's enrollment numbers by the state and consequent funding for the school.

Students, whose high school cohort class (graduation year based on four years/eight consecutive semesters after 9th grade entrance in high school) has graduated, will be accepted upon completion of an application form and payment of a small enrollment fee ($25).

Students, whose cohort group has not graduated and who are 16, 17, or 18 years of age may or may not be accepted, especially if enrolling after the September 20th count date.  In either situation, these students must

  • Complete an Open Door application and Review Board form
  • Have already earned17 high school credits
  • Be approved by the Open Door Review Board

 Open Door also PROVIDES

  • Test Proctoring  - $50/test
